February 2017 – Greetings From Your Social Director
March 15, 2017 Dorothy Hoover

As I write this the weather man is predicting warmer weather. Now that means a lot of those of us still in Minnesota. To those of you who have “flown south” for a while, I wish good travel weather for you.

Beth Sternhagen from Essential will be our guest speaker for our February meeting. She will present a program on balance and fall prevention. I have heard she presents a very interesting program. This is something, no matter our age, can relate to as we get around in our homes and out on icy streets and sidewalks.

Here is a reminder to save stamps for TUBFRIM. For the past 30 years, members have clipped canceled postage stamps and sent them to Tubfrim, who then sells them to dealers and collectors. Originally the money raised went to help children afflicted by tuberculosis. Since that is no longer the threat it once was, today the proceeds from the resale of stamps helps improve the quality of life for children and youth with disabilities and special needs. Sons of Norway members are the largest contributor outside of Norway to Tubfrim’s efforts, sending nearly 30% of all stamps collected.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SAVE CANCELLED STAMPS. Cut, do not tear, and leave 1/4 to 1/2 inch on all four sides. Bring them to our meetings and I will make sure they get to Gene Branvold, Minneapolis. He in turn sends them to Norway. THANK YOU!

Also, a reminder to keep track of your hours devoted to Sons of Norway. I will be giving a presentation on Volunteer hours in the near future. We need to continue to do this to keep our tax status and to compete for Lodge Achievement awards. If you look at the wall at Union Central, you will see we have won some and it is quite an accomplishment to do so.

Hope to see you in February.
